I was wrong! In the neighborhood of Nkwabeng North (pronounce it phonetically and you'll be pretty close), the Donkors and friends had quite the Valentine's evening celebration going in the local church building.
I'd say about 50 to 75 people were there -- and it was loud, hot, fun and colorful. I felt a bit under-dressed, but Doris and I had worked in the office previewing loan documents to be transferred into MIFOS (more on that later.)
I gladly accepted a couple of bottles of Fanta (my defacto drink on this continent), and remembering my instructions, declined offers of food. Soon the open microphone time started. A "house band" seemed quite able to follow any singer on any song. Someone put my name on the list for a duet -- but as I was called up to the stage, I had an inspiration! I walked over to the keyboardist and asked him to play again a vamp he had played earlier. "Repeat 4 times, then resolve..." I whispered. He nodded. I took the microphone, and sang what came to my head. Not sure I can tell you exactly what it was, but it rhymed, it rocked, and the audience rolled. :)
